Arie: Mare of Legend and Noelani

Arie: Mare of Legend and Noelani

Arie Oldb, out of Angela Old by Grand Marnier Old, was a grey Oldenburg mare that lived from 1995 to 2014. Arie was considered "bred in the purple", having great lines on both sides of the pedigree. She was entered in the ORNA Main Mare book in 03.17.11.

Bred in Illinois, Arie led the full life of an eventer. Arthritis in the pasterns affected her performance relatively early on, and she was sold. Her second owner kept her for pleasure riding, fox hunting and trail. Transitioning to life on the West Coast as a lesson horse proved unsatisfactory to her, and she was advertised for sale as a brood mare. I had taken a partial lease on Ari perhaps six months earlier while my Bashkir Curly, Happy Landings, convalesced from a busted styfle. Although Mendellian experiments garner no reaction from me whatsoever, Ari is bred in the purple. A completely contrived concept, like money, it simply means her bloodlines are very good. Arie produced two beautiful offspring, the gelding Legend by Laitin and the mare Noelani by Noble Houston.
